Mrozek extends contract with Lech

The goalkeeper born in the year 2000 joined Lech’s Academy at the age of 14. Throughout his career at the youth teams, Mrozek won the U17 and U19 Championship title, among other trophies. In summer 2016, the goalkeeper was promoted to the first team. Although he hasn’t made his debut for the senior squad yet, Mrozek did play nearly 60 games in the Central Junior League and for the reserves team. 3 years ago, the goalkeeper started gaining valuable experience in senior football for the teams of Elana Toruń (13 games in the third division) and GKS Katowice. Whilst on loan at the latter club, the Academy player appeared in 65 games and managed to keep a clean sheet 15 times which has undoubtedly helped the team win promotion to the second division.

Lech’s coaching staff decided to bring the 21-year-old back to Bułgarska street. The young player will be competing for a spot in the starting line-up with Mickey van der Hart, Filip Bednarek and Miłosz Mleczko. Lech’s Sporting Director is hoping that the rivalry will positively influence Mrozek’s professional development. “We have been monitoring closely Bartek’s progress throughout his loan at Elana Toruń and GKS Katowice. He played nearly 80 matches in the third division and as a result of his professional improvement, he has returned to Lech as a better player. We are hoping that over the next few months, he is going to put pressure on the other goalkeepers and that he will earn himself a debut in the senior team,” emphasised Tomasz Rząsa.

Mrozek highlights that the past few years were an invaluable experience but… he is hungry for more. “I was born in Katowice, hence it’s no surprise that it feels like home to me. After the first season at GKS, I could feel that I was going in the right direction, but at the same time, I knew that I was capable of more. In the following season, I achieved an even higher level. Now I want to continue performing well at Lech – the club that I owe so much to,” explained Lech’s homegrown player.

“There is no player who enjoys sitting on the bench. I am no different, hence before returning to Lech, I set myself the objective of playing in the starting line-up. I am still recovering from an injury from last season but I am excited about the rivalry. Football isn’t easy, you need to earn it, but I am determined and unafraid of all the hard work that’s ahead of me,” highlighted Mrozek.
