The Polish national team beat Ukraine 2:0 in a friendly international game. Moder, who appeared on the pitch in the 62nd minute, scored his first goal for the white-and-red.
The match held on the Silesian Stadium in Chorzów was a friendly game, hence the Polish national team coach decided to experiment with the squad. Brzęczyk left a few key players on the bench, including Moder who was a part of the starting line-up against Italy and Finland in October.
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s starting XI was much more similar to coach Shevchenko’s first-choice formation. As a result, the guests were the ones to take control of the match and 15 minutes into the game, they had a perfect opportunity to score. The referee awarded Ukraine with a penalty kick following Bochniewicz’s foul on Yarmolenca, however, the latter’s shot stopped on the post and the opportunity went to waste.
Piątek was more effective 5 minutes before halftime when the Ukrainian keeper Lunina left the penalty area and lost the ball by the sideline, presenting Poland with a perfect opportunity to place the ball in an empty net.
Moder appeared on the pitch in the 62nd minute and 30 seconds later he was celebrating his first goal for the Polish national team. The midfielder converted a set piece into a goal, adding another positive highlight to his recent performances for Poland, alongside his assist in the clash with Finland.
Aside from Moder, two other Lech Poznań homegrown players appeared on the pitch on Wednesday – Gumny and Jóźwiak. For the first one, not only was it a debut match, but he also got to be a part of the starting line-up (in the 78th minute he was replaced due to an injury). Meanwhile, Jóźwiak was sent in on the pitch in the second half.
Jerzy Brzęczyk also included Kamiński in his squad for the November international break but the 18-year-old was forced to miss it because of an injury. During the recent league clash with Legia, the youngster suffered another biceps femoris injury and will be out for two weeks. Hence, Kamiński is going to have to wait a bit longer for his senior national team debut.
The Polish squad has two more matches scheduled for November – a Nations League clash with Italy (November 15th, 8:45 PM) and the Netherlands (November 18th, 8:45 PM).
Goals: Krzysztof Piątek (40.), Jakub Moder (63.)
Poland: Łukasz Skorupski – Robert Gumny (78. Bartosz Bereszyński), Sebastian Walukiewicz, Paweł Bochniewicz, Maciej Rybus (79. Arkadiusz Reca) – Przemysław Płacheta (83. Sebastian Szymański), Mateusz Klich, Jacek Góralski (62. Karol Linetty), Piotr Zieliński (46. Kamil Jóźwiak) – Krzysztof Piątek, Arkadiusz Milik (62. Jakub Moder)
