In the 25th round of Lotto Ekstraklasa, Lech Poznan lost to Miedz Legnica 2:3.
The match did not begin well for Lech – the rain made things hard for the players, so did the goal they conceded in the 4th minute. Forsell converted a free kick into a shot that, although stopped by Buric, gave Musa a chance to tap the back into the back of the net. For the next few minutes, the two teams fought for the ball in the midfield. Lech was in possession of the ball more frequently than their rival, whilst Miedz waited for chances to counterattack. After 20 minutes, the hosts finally attacked, but Musa’s shot flew above the crossbar.
In Miedz’s next offensive attack, Buric intervened very well and successfully stopped Forsell’s attempt from outside the box. A moment later, on the other end of the pitch, Jozwiak had a great opportunity to equalize, however, he waited too long before firing a shot hence it was blocked. The hosts responded with another attack that caused problems to Lech’s defensive, but Buric did not let the ball past him. 10 minutes before halftime, Miedz scored the second goal. Forsell was the one to change the score to 2:0 with a beautiful shot from outside the box. The team from Poznan had one more goal-scoring opportunity before the referee ended the first half, however, De Marco’s shot was slightly off target.
Lech was the first side to attack in the second part of the game. De Marco’s and Gytkjaer’s offensive attempt ended with the latter firing a shot that stopped on the side net. Finally, in the 56th minute, Lech got a goal. Makuszewski sent a flat pass into the box where Tiba was waiting. The Portuguese redirected the ball to Gajos and the midfielder placed it in the back of the net. Amaral could have equalized a couple of minutes later, but his shot was blocked by Miedz’s defenders.
Lech had another chance to score following a corner kick, however, once again the hosts’ defensive line was faster than the player with the ball. 15 minutes before halftime, Miedz woke up and started causing problems to Lech’s defenders. One of their counterattacks resulted in a penalty kick awarded for a handball that was verified using VAR. Santana effortlessly sent the ball into the back of the net.
In the injury time, Gumny sent a precise cross into the box and Amaral successfully converted it into a goal. However, Lech’s desperate attacks in the last minutes of the match did not result in an equalizer, hence the team from Poznan went back home without points.
