Maciej Skorża has been appointed as the new coach of Lech Poznań. The 42 year-old coach signed a contract for 3 years.
Maciej Skorża debuted as the main coach in 2004 when he took over Amika Wronki after the dismissal of Stefan Majewski. Soon after he worked for Dyskobolia Grodzisk where he won the Polish Cup and the League Cup. Between 2007 and 2010 he led the team of Wisła Kraków. Together with The White Star he won the league twice. In the years 2010-2012 Skorża was the coach of Legia Warszawa with whom he turned to be undefeated in two Polish Cups. In the September of 2012 he started working for the Saudi Arabian Ettifaq FC. He led the team until his contract expired in June 2013.
"We have taken under consideration a few candidates, including foreigners. However, employing a coach that isn't Polish meant we would take a risk. Foreigners don't guarantee success; the language can be a barrier and in most cases such coaches do not know the Polish players. Coach Skorża, on the other hand, has been successful in Poland, knows well how to approach the players and fits the philosophy of the club. He will have access to the scouting and the Youth Academy," said the vice Chairman of the club, Piotr Rutkowski.
Maciej Skorża will start working with the team when his staff will be complete. The new coach will take over the team after the dismissal of Mariusz Rumak that took place on August 12th. In the meantime the team of Lech has been led by the temporary coaching staff. Krzysztof Chrobak was the main coach and together with Patryk Kniat, Marcin Wróbel, Andrzej Kasprzak and Dominik Kubiak, they managed the players. The same team of coaches will lead Lech in the game against Cracovia.
"I did not hesitate before taking the decision. I am really proud to be the coach of Lech. I really like the philosophy of the club and the long-term project that's been presented to me. Lech Poznań and Maciej Skorża have common goals. We want to appear on the European stage again quickly. The potential of the club allows to think about regular performances in the group phase of the European cups," said the new coach of Lech. "The situation of the team is complicated. These players are capable of much more than what they've achieved recently. I want to take over the team quickly and start working on psychological elements as well as the tactical discipline. That's what has to be changed since the very first training."
