In the recent clash with Raków Częstochowa, Juliusz Letniowski made his debut for the senior team. The 21-year-old appeared on the pitch a few minutes before the final whistle and got the chance to celebrate an important win with his teammates.
It took Lech over 70 minutes to score the first goal against the top-division newcomers. Gytkjaer was the one to convert a penalty kick into a score opener. When the Danish striker was being fouled in Raków’s box, Letniowski was already waiting by the sidelines, ready to appear on the pitch. However, a change in the score also resulted in a change of tactics, hence Lech’s coaching staff decided for another substitution and the young midfielder was only sent in 15 minutes later when his team was already winning 2:0.
During his debut appearance on the pitch, Letniowski got 5 accurate passes and an impressive interception of a counterattack. Following the final whistle, the young midfielder shared his impressions and told us what his tasks were. “We were winning 2:0, therefore the goal was to remain in possession of the ball. I was given 10 minutes on the pitch and I focused on doing my best. We scored the third goal and the overall objective for the game was achieved. The most important thing is that we won; I am really happy with the final score. I am hoping that we will get more and more opportunities to celebrate such as this one,” explained the footballer.
Letniowski had to wait over a year before he could debut for the senior side. This wait was a result of various injuries from which he only recovered in autumn. Letniowski was getting back into the match rhythm competing for the reserves team over the last few months. In total, he competed for Lech’s B team 10 times, scored 3 goals and got one assist. However, his great performances weren’t enough for Letniowski to debut in the senior squad. During the training camp in Belek, the midfielder once again showed what he is capable of and proved his great form, hence his debut became just a matter of time. “My good performances in the training matches weren’t a coincidence. This league win will boost our morales and it will only keep on getting better from there,” emphasised the 21-year-old.
