Lech players have waited nearly six years for this win. The last time that the team from Poznań beat Legia in Warsaw was back in October 2015 – since then, Lech struggled to defeat their opponent when playing away. Finally, on Sunday evening, the Poznań squad triumphed at Łazienkowska street thanks to a goal from Mikael Ishak. As a result, Lech remained at the top of the league table.
The opening minutes of the match in Warsaw caused Lech players plenty of stress – in the 3rd minute, Filip Bednarek was defeated with a precise, strong shot by Artur Jędrzejczyk. However, since the goal scorer touched the ball with his hand before firing the shot, the goal was ruled incorrect.
Since then, Lech gradually took control of the game. The team from Poznań had a few good goal-scoring chances in the first half, including Adriel Ba Loua’s beautiful shot from outside the box which stopped on the post.
In the second half, Lech finally found the back of the net. Pedro Rebocho perfectly executed a free kick and Mikael Ishak converted the precise cross into a shot that left Legia’s keeper helpless. The Swedish striker had a great chance to set the final score to 2:0 when Lech was awarded a penalty kick following a foul on Dani Ramirez. However, this time Kacper Tobiasz triumphed in the one-on-one clash with Ishak. A few minutes later, the referee ended the match and Lech celebrated a long-awaited win in Warsaw.
Lech remains the leader of PKO BP Ekstraklasa. They already have a 15-point advantage over Legia Warsaw. On Friday, the team from Poznań will play another league game – this time at home, against Wisła Płock (8:30 pm).
