Lech Poznan drew in the Saturday away clash with Lechia Gdansk. The match ended in a 3:3 tie. Gajos, Gytkjaer and Makuszewski scored for the team from Poznan. Both teams finished the match in 10 men following red cards for Nalepa and Radut. The result allows Lech to remain the leader of the league.
The match began very well for Lech that took control of the game early in the first half. However, despite indisputable advantage, the team from Poznan struggled to score. Neither Jevtic’s shot, not Kostevych’s and Gumny’s crossed resulted in a goal. As the minutes passed, the match became more balanced. Both teams attempted to beat their rival’s defensive line and Lechia came close in the 13th minute when Wolski dribbled past Janicki. Luckily for Lech, Kostevych stopped Lechia’s player at the last moment.
Shortly afterward, the hosts scored the first goal. Wolski crossed the ball into the box towards the closer post where Augustyn was. The latter tricked the defenders and the goalkeeper and placed the ball in the back of the net. Bjelica’s team responded in the 37th minute. It was Lech’s first scoring chance and they managed to equalize. Radut crossed the ball from the right flank and Gajos converted the pass into a goal. It was the midfielder’s third goal this season.
However, in the meantime, the Croatian coach was forced to make 2 substitutions. Situm and Janicki had to leave the force due to injuries. The referee added 3 extra minutes to the first half as a result of multiple interventions of the medical teams. Shortly before both teams went off for halftime, Lechia was awarded a penalty kick. Nielsen fouled Paixao in the penalty area. The referee used VAR system to make the decision and Nielsen was given a yellow card. Lechia’s forward easily converted the opportunity into a goal.
Lech was determined to catch up in the second half. However, the best scoring chance they had came after a mistake from one of Lechia’s defenders. Slawczew sent a pass towards his own goal and Gytkjaer intercepted it. Luckily for Lechia, the Dane failed to place the ball in the back of the net because he was stopped by one of the defenders. The referee decided to use VAR in order to make a final decision and it resulted in a red card for Nalepa.
With one man down Lechia was no longer as strong and Lech started to cause problems to the hosts. Jevtic and Radut played the key roles in Lech’s intensified offensive actions. In the 59th minute Gajos had a good scoring chance but his shot from an acute angle was successfully stopped by the keeper. Lech had to watch out for Lechia’s counterattack. Stolarski and Paixao had good opportunities to add another goal to their team’s account, but both were imprecise in their attempts.
Lech surprised Lechia with a counterattack of their own and equalized again. Makuszewski spotted Rakels who raced towards the goal and passed to Gytkjaer just as the goalkeeper approached him. The Dane had no problems with placing the ball in the back of the net. 2 minutes later Makuszewski converted a cross from Jevtic into a goal and Lech was in the lead. However, the score changed again soon afterward. Radut was shown a second yellow card and now both sides had to play with 10 men only. A moment later Lechia scored the third goal. Slawczew lobbed Putnocky and set the final score to a 3:3 draw.
