Despite dominating in the Sunday league match, Lech Poznań lost to Lechia Gdańsk 0:1.
Since the first whistle, Lech was in control of the game but the team from Poznań lacked precision and struggled to convert the scoring chances into goals. Lubomir Satka and Antonio Milic came close to placing the ball in the next within seconds of each other. However, Satka’s header stopped on the crossbar, whereas the latter’s follow-up shot was off target. Kristoffer Velde and Pedro Rebocho also had good scoring chances but neither of them managed to turn it into a goal.
In the second half, Lech continued occupying Lechia’s side of the pitch, but their offensive attempts were less frequent and less intense. Dawid Kownacki could have helped his team win important points but his strong shot from outside the box was successfully stopped by Dusan Kuciak. The Slovak keeper also intervened perfectly when Jakub Kamiński tried surprising him. Lech’s homegrown winger found the back of the net in the 71st minute, but the goal was disallowed as a result of an offside.
When Filip Koperski scored 5 minutes before the final time, there was no doubt that the goal was correct. Lech’s defense lost focus and their opponent took advantage, scoring a goal worth three league points.
A loss against Lechia means that the team from Poznań has been relegated from the leader’s seat whilst Pogoń Szczecin – who beat Stal Mielec on Saturday – jumped to the top of the league table. Next Saturday (at 3 pm), the two Ekstraklasa teams will face each other in Szczecin.
