Lech has finally delivered a long-awaited, impressive performance. In the 6th round of PKO BP Ekstraklasa, John van den Brom’s squad beat Lechia Gdańsk 3:0.
Following last week’s win against Piast Gliwice (1:0), the team’s morals have improved significantly. It was Lech’s first league win this season. A weight was lifted off their shoulders – a fact which was visible since the opening minutes of the Wednesday clash against Lechia.
Lech’s motivation and determination bore fruit in the 19th minute, following a corner kick when Nika Kvekveskiri fired a strong shot from outside the box which left Lechia’s keeper helpless. Towards the end of the first half, the goalkeeper was defeated once again, but this time it was Kristoffer Velde who finished off an individual run with a precise shot into the corner of the goal.
However, the two goals didn’t satisfy Lech – the guests were equally determined to score in the second half. Velde came close to scoring a double, but he hit the woodwork, whereas Filip Marchwiński follow-up shot was just slightly off target. In the 60th minute, Lech scored the third goal – Michał Skóraś and Marchwiński broke through Lech’s defensive line, and the first one beat the keeper with an impressive lob.
It was Lech’s second league win in a row. On Sunday, John van den Brom’s squad will have a chance to extend their successful run, against Widzew Łódź (5:30 pm, Poznań Stadium).
