Matúš Putnocký has become Lech's newest goalkeeper. On Tuesday the 31 year-old player signed a 3 year-long contract with the team from Poznan. "My aim is to compete at the very top," said the Slovak.
It is Lech's first transfer ahead of the new season. "Krzysztof Kotorowski has just ended his career, and thus it is no surprise that we have been looking for another goalkeeper. We needed a player that would not only be a replacement, but also a solid competitor for Jasmin Buric. Matus, who has been the first-choice goalkeeper in Ruch Chorzow, is the perfect candidate," explained Piotr Rutkowski, Lech's vice-chairman.
The player himself is no less enthusiastic about the move to Poznan. "Back in Slovakia I won the championship and played on the international area. In Poland I aim at the same thing. I know Lech's stadium, since I have already played here. All the games against the team from Poznan were tough and I was always kept busy. I hope I am well prepared to compete together with Lech and that the coach will be satisfied with my performance. I also hope that I was feel good here, in Poznan," said Putnocký.
The Slovak joined Ruch Chorzow in January 2015. He used to compete for Slovana Bratislava which whom the goalkeeper won the national championship. In addition, the footballer competed in the European tournaments. "He has nearly 300 performances at the highest level in football on his account. We were looking for an experienced player who, even as a second-choice goalkeeper, is capable of guarding the goal at any moment of the match," emphasized Rutkowski.
The goalkeeper performed extraordinarily in the past year-and-a-half in Ruch Chorzow, and thus was nominated for the award given to the best goalkeeper of the season 2015/16. "Shortly before his move to Ekstraklasa Putnocký's potential has already been recognized. He proved his abilities during this season. We considered it important that the goalkeeper played a key role in Ruch Chorzow with whom we compete in the league," explained the vice-chairman of Lech Poznan. "We are talking about a reconstruction of the team. We plan for a part of newest transfers to reach us before the pre-season starts."
