Lech Poznań signed another central midfielder. On Friday morning, Nika Kvekveskiri officially joined Lech on a 6-month loan with the option to extend his stay in Poznań for another 24 months.
The 28-year-old arrived in Poznań on Thursday and underwent medical tests in Rehasport clinic. According to Hungarian media, the midfielder was negotiating a contract with Honved Budapest. However, the player has already reached an agreement with Lech Poznań. Since the beginning of December, Kvekveskiri was a free agent after saying goodbye to his former Kazakh club, FC Tobol.
On Thursday evening, Lech announced that Radosław Murawski will be joining the side from Poznań on July 1st, when his contract with Turkish Denizlispor expires. Therefore, Lech was forced to seek reinforcement for the midfield for the upcoming 6 months. The Georgian player was deemed the best choice.
“Soon the spring round begins and we wanted to strengthen our midfield, especially since Radosław Majewski won’t be joining us until July. Hence, we decided to sign Nika Kvekveskiri for a 6-month loan with the option to extend the agreement for another 2 years. He is an experienced player that has been regularly competing for both, his club and the Georgian national team. As a result, we can now be calm about our midfield with Jesper Karlström, Pedro Tiba and Nika all competing for a spot in the starting line-up,” explained Tomasz Rząsa, Lech’s Sporting Director.
Kvekveskiri had been representing FC Tobol since 2017. He scored a total of 5 goals and got 10 assists in 83 appearances. Previously, in the season 2016/2017, he played for FK Qabala – an Azerbaijan side – and before that, he competed for clubs from Georgia.
The 28-year-old is Georgian’s starting line-up midfielder. So far, he wore his national team’s shirt 33 times, scoring 5 times and assisting his teammates 6 times. He made his debut for Georgia back in October 2015, in the Euro 2016 qualifier against Gibraltar (4:0). Throughout autumn 2020, Kvekveskiri played in all Nations League games and Euro 2021 playoffs. The Georgians came close to making history and qualifying for European Championships but they lost to North Macedonia 0:1 in the crucial clash.
Kvekveskiri chose to wear number 30 on the back of his shirt and instead of having his full name on the jersey, he picked his nickname “Kvekve”.
