Nenad Bjelica became the coach of Lech Poznan. The Croatian manager signed a two-year long contract with the option of one year extension.
The 45 year-old coach used to play as an offensive midfielder. During his career he represented (among others) Real Betis, Sevilla, Las Palmas and the German Kaisetslautern. He retired in 2008, having worked as a coach for a year already. In 2001 Bjelica debuted in the Croatian National Team for which he played in 8 games.
His coaching career started at FC Kärnten in 2007. Later on the manager joined Lustenau and Wolfsberger. In 2013 Bjelica was signed by Austria Vienna which he led to Champions League group phase. Before joining Lech Poznan, the manager also worked for Italian club Spezia.
“He’s a very charismatic figure. As a player he’s been known for his winner mentality. As a coach he focuses on tactical discipline, commitment and diligence. His teams outstood others with the intensity of the play. We hope Bjelica will achieve something similar here, in Lech,” said Piotr Rutkowski, vice-chairman of the club.
Rene Poms and dr Martin Mayer have been chosen by Bjelica as his assistants. Aside from the two staff members, the coaching squad will remain the same – Andrzej Dawidziuk (goalkeeper’s coach), Andrzej Kasprzak (fitness coach), Marcin Wrobel and Jacek Terpilowski (analysts) will continue working for Lech.
