Lubomir Šatka is the newest player to join Lech Poznan. The centre-back signed a 4-year contract with the Polish club and he is going to start training with his new teammates in the second half of July.
The 23-year-old began his career at MFK Dubnica. In 2012 he joined Newcastle United where he played for youth teams (mainly U-23) for over 4 years. During that time, he also had the chance to debut for Newcastle senior team (against Leicester in FA Cup). Next, Šatka was sent on loan to York City and regularly played in the fourth tier.
In season 2016/17, the centre-back made another stop in his career – this time he joined FC DAC 1904 Dunajska Streda, also on loan, however, after 6 months he was purchased by the Slovakian club. Since then, he appeared in 80 games and scored 5 times. In addition, the centre-back has 6 caps on his account (most recent against Jordan in June) and in 2017 he was a part of the Slovakian national team that competed in U-21 European Championships which were held in Poland. During that same tournament, Slovakia and Poland faced each other in the group stage, but Šatka didn’t get a chance to compete against the Poles. Nonetheless, he did play in the last match, against Sweden, which Slovakia won 3:0 following a goal from Šatka.
Lech is familiar with the 23-year-old since he played against the Polish squad in one of the friendly matches organized during the winter pre-season training camp in Turkey.
“We have been observing Šatka for a while now. The Slovakian centre-back proved last season that he can have a big impact on the success of his team and that his form is stable,” emphasized Tomasz Rzasa, Lech’s Sporting Director. “In order to successfully bring down Šatka, we needed to agree for the player to join us later this pre-season, after DAC’s two-leg clash in Europa League qualifiers against Cracovia. Our newest signing will officially start training with the team shortly before our first league game of the season,” added Rzasa.
Šatka is currently training with his former club and is preparing for the upcoming Europa League qualifying matches. However, the centre-back has already had the chance to meet his new teammates. “My expectations are high simply because the club and the fans are aiming high. I cannot wait for the first matches; I am excited about being able to help the team achieve the set goals and return to its rightful position in the league table,” highlighted the player himself.
Šatka signed a 4-year contract with Lech. The Slovakian centre-back is one of the multiple players who joined Lech this transfer window; the club from Poznan has already strengthened its squad with Mickey van der Hart, Karlo Muhar, Tomasz Dejewski, and Djordje Crnomarković.
