In the 21st league match of the season, Lech Poznan was beaten by Zaglebie Lubin 2:1.
Lech was the first one to attack. Shortly after the match began, Tiba spread the ball wide to Makuszewski who rushed into the box and sent a pass parallel to Zaglebie’s goal where Gytkjaer was waiting. However, the defenders were quicker than the Danish striker. Zaglebie replied with Jagiella’s attempt which was off target. 15 minutes into the match, Lech had another chance to take the lead. Amaral converted a free kick into a cross that reached De Marco, but the defender’s header was just slightly imprecise.
For the next 15 minutes, the match revolved around the midfield where the two teams struggled to take possession of the ball for a longer period. Lech finally managed to take control of the ball and counterattacked immediately. Amaral ran down the pitch and left the ball for Jozwiak, but the youngster’s attempt was off target. A couple of minutes later, the Polish midfielder was the one to give Makuszewski the ball on a plate, but the latter’s shot slammed off the wall. ‘Maki’ had another goal-scoring opportunity shortly afterwards when he received a cross from De Marco, but the winger failed to put the ball in the back of the net.
A moment later, De Marco tried heading the ball into the goal, but his shot missed the goal by centimetres. Amaral was the one finish off Lech’s following offensive attempt but he did not succeed either. Zaglebie responded with Pawlowski’s strong shot from outside the box which was off target and a dangerous execution of a corner kick.
In the opening minutes of the second half, neither of the teams could control the ball for a longer period. Finally Zaglebie managed to create a couple of chances from free kicks. One of them ended with the ball bouncing off the crossbar and hitting the goal line. On the other end of the pitch, Gajos fired a precise shot at Zaglebie’s goal, but the goalkeeper intervened well. Gradually Lech started taking control of the match until finally they got the goal they were looking for. Tiba’s shot from outside the box hit the post, bounced off the keeper’s back and Gytkjaer tapped it into the back of the net.
A moment later, Pawlowski managed to get rid of the defenders marking him and fired a shot that Buric barely stopped from falling into the goal. Gytkjaer got two more scoring chances but both his attempts were successfully stopped by the keeper. 15 minutes before the final whistle, Zaglebie equalized following a good pass from Pawlowski and Starzynski’s precise finish. The first player was very active on Friday evening and caused problems to Lech’s defensive line. A couple of minutes later, the referee used VAR to award the team from Lubin a penalty kick. However, Starzynski’s shot was impressively saved by Buric. In the very last offensive attempt of the match, Zaglebie set the final score to 2:1 following Vujadinovic’s own goal.
