In the 16th league game of the season, Lech Poznan beat Wisla Plock 2:1 at home.
Lech was the first team to get a scoring opportunity on the Saturday evening. Makuszewski decided to end his individual run with a pass to Kostevych who was positioned on the other end of the penalty box, but the latter’s shot was easily stopped by Wisla’s keeper. Shortly afterwards, by the opposite goal, Merebaszwili fired a surprising shot but Buric intervened effortlessly. For the next 15 minutes, the two teams fought for possession in the midfield.
Half-an-hour into the match, Wisla Plock took the lead. A throw-in awarded to the guests resulted in Szymanski’s goal; the player was left unmarked in the middle of the penalty box. Lech was very lucky in the following offensive attack built by Wisla since it could have easily ended with a second goal for the team from Plock. The hosts responded with an impressive team attack built by Jevtic and Gytkjaer, but the Swiss’s shot was off target.
A moment later, Gytkjaer's header was impressively saved by Dahne. Within a couple of minutes, Lech managed to equalize after Gumny’s attempt was blocked and Jevtic sent the ball flying into the back of the net. The hosts added another goal to their account when Gytkjaer raced into the box, dribbled past Lasicki and sent the ball flying under the crossbar and into the goal.
The second half began better for Wisla who was awarded a free kick which gave them a good chance to equalize. Unfortunately for the guests, Buric stopped Furman’s shot. The two sides struggled to remain in possession of the ball for the next quarter, and most of the play concentrated around the midfield. Lech finally managed to come closer to Wisla’s penalty area, but their attempts weren’t dangerous enough to cause problems to the defensive line from Plock.
Lech kept on attacking once in a while, but since their offensive actions weren’t precise, the hosts failed to score the third goal. In the injury time added to the second half, Lech led a counterattack when Wisla’s goalkeeper was gone from his penalty box, but the attack was stopped by the referee due to a foul. The score remained unchanged and Lech won a league game for the first time since the home clash with Korona Kielce.
