Lech won the Sunday clash with Wisla Plock 2:1. Maciej Makuszewski and Christian Gytkjaer scored for the team from Poznan.
The players from Poznan dominated the opening part of the match and in the 13th minute they built their first good scoring chance. Makuszewski raced along the goal line towards the midfield and fired a shot that caused the goalkeeper a lot of problems and the ball rolled into the back of the net. A couple of minutes later it could have been 2:0 when Gumny crossed the ball into the box, but Jevtic’s header flew above the crossbar.
Lech was in possession of the ball more often than the rival from Plock, however, Wisla had numerous good scoring chances. In the 28th minute Stilic’s freekick deflected from one of Lech’s defenders and caused problems to Putnocky, but luckily for Lech the ball did not fall into the net. Shortly afterward, on the other end of the pitch Gytkjaer attempted to change the score with a shot from an acute angle, but Kielpin stopped the ball.
Gradually Wisla became more courageous in the offensive and managed to equalize in the 36th minute. Varela raced into the box and sent a pass to Kante who was positioned behind his teammate. The latter spotted Stilic, gave him the ball, and the midfielder sent the ball between Putnocky’s legs and into the net. Before referee announced halftime, the score changed once more. Lech responded with a goal from Gytkjaer which followed a mistake made by one of Wisla’s defenders.
Having switched sides, Lech was focused on controlling the match. However, it wasn’t as easy because Wisla was determined to equalize once more. The guests struggled to beat Lech’s defensive line, even from set pieces. Meanwhile, Lech waited for opportunities to counterattack. The team from Poznan seemed to have problems building rapid offensive actions because their passes lacked precision. Wisla had a good scoring chance following a strong shot from Kante, but Putnocky intervened well. It was one of Wisla’s few shots at Lech’s goal in the second half. Just when it seemed that the guests would keep on pressing on Lech’s defensive line, the hosts built a couple of good scoring chances.
In the 79th minute Radut’s impressive individual run was stopped by one of Wisla’s defenders at the last moment. Meanwhile, Wisla’s crosses into the box where constantly intercepted by Putnocky. Lech managed to stop their rival from scoring and added 3 important points to their account after 5 matches without a win.
