In the second training match held in Turkey, Lech Poznan lost against the Austrian Sturm Graz (1:2). Rafal Janicki scored the only goal for the Polish side.
Lech Poznan kicked off the match with an offensive attitude. In the 11th minute, Makuszewski had already got an opportunity to change the score when he received a perfect pass from the midfield. However, the winger lost a direct clash with the keeper. 4 minutes later, Jevtic was the one to fire a shot at Sturm’s goal but his attempt was significantly off target.
In the opening minutes of the match, Lech focused on high pressing whilst Jozwiak played a key role in the offensive attempts. The young midfielder made a couple of crucial interceptions which led to scoring chances. However, soon the Austrian team took control of the game. In the 29th minute, Sturm was given a corner kick which Schrammel converted into a beautiful curved shot that fell into the back of Putnocky’s net.
Before the second half began, the weather conditions changed drastically, and the two sides were forced to compete in heavy rain which influenced the match significantly. The Austrians were the first ones to attack in the second part of the game. In the 57th minute, Lema fired a dangerous shot from outside the box but it was successfully stopped by Lech’s keeper.
In the 75th minute, Lech’s footballers attacked. This time De Marco won a direct clash on the left wing and Letniowski finished off the attack with a shot from outside the penalty area. However, the youngster’s attempt was easily saved by the goalkeeper. Sturm responded with an impressive team action which ended with Ljubic – who was left unmarked in the box - placing the ball in the net from a distance of 8 meters.
Nawalka’s players were visibly determined to change the score. In the closing minutes of the match, Lech was given a free kick that Letniowski converted into a great shot, but Sturm’s keeper intervened well. A minute later, Siebenhandl was left helpless when Letniowski crossed the ball into the box and Janicki redirected it into the back of the net.
