Lech Poznan won this season’s 16th league clash. Jevtic and Robak (2) scored the goals against Slask Wroclaw on INEA Stadium and collected three important points for the team from Poznan.
Lech’s main goal in the opening minutes was to take control over the play. The hosts were hoping that a rapid recovery of the ball in the midfield would enable them to build quick counterattacks. That is exactly what happened in the 7th minute. Gajos recovered the ball and Majewski decided to finish off the offensive action with a shot from outside the box. However, the player’s attempt wasn’t on target.
Lech was the team that won majority of the direct clashes in the midfield. The team from Poznan was very efficient in the recovery of the ball. In the 16th minute Makuszewski, who was facing the opponent’s goal with his back, sent a no-look pass to Jevtic and the latter ran towards the middle of the pitch, dribbled past Dankowski and fired a shot that rolled into the back of the net. The goal seemed to set Lech on fire and multiple scoring chances followed. Kownacki was blocked shortly afterwards, while Jevtic’s second attempt was stopped by the keeper.
However, it was Slask that was in possession of the ball throughout most of the first half. Nevertheless, the guests seemed to struggle to build a dangerous offensive action. Dankowski was one of the most active footballers on the pitch and his crosses into the box caused problems to Lech’s defensive line. However, his teammates failed to convert the good passes into goals. In the first half’s added time Lech built another scoring chance. Kownacki won a clash on the left flank and sent a cross into the box. The pass reached Majewski who was left unmarked in the penalty area, but the player did not hit the ball well, and his shot was easily saved by the keeper.
Slask had nothing to lose and therefore they focused on the offensive in the second half. However, opening up also meant that Lech had more space to counterattack. Luckily for the guests, the team from Poznan was inefficient in the opponent’s box. Kedziora was involved in a couple of scoring chances. One of them ended with the defender sending a cross into the box and Gajos finishing off the action with a strong, inaccurate shot.
Lech’s indisputable advantage eventually ended with Lech scoring another goal. Once again Makuszewski played a key role in the goal action. The winger received a pass from Robak and redirected the ball back to the forward again a moment later. Robak had a lot of space and time in front of the goal, thus he turned around and fired a shot that left the goalkeeper helpless. The team from Poznan needed to remain cautious since Slask was determined to score a goal themselves. Idzik hit the post and his teammates fired a couple of shots as well, but neither of Slask’s footballer managed to place the ball in the net.
Lech did not settle on two goals only. The hosts kept on attacking once in a while and one of their offensive actions ended with Celeban stopping the ball with his hand. The referee awarded Lech a penalty kick without hesitation and Robak converted it into the third goal. It took the forward 13 minutes to score two goals. The conceded goal left the guests hopeless and when the referee whistled for the last time that night, the scoreboard showed an important, three-goal win for Lech.
