After a three-week break, Lech returned to Enea Stadion. Mariusz Rumak’s squad faced Pogoń Szczecin – an opponent that they lost to twice this season. However, on Sunday, the team from Poznań finally found a way to defeat Pogoń thanks to a goal from Mikael Ishak.
Before the clash with Pogoń Szczecin, Lech faced Stal Mielec and managed to come home with one league point. Meanwhile, Lech’s opponent played in the semifinals of the Fortuna Polish Cup and defeated Jagiellonia Białystok 2:1.
In the first half - fuelled by the Polish Cup win - it was Pogoń that dominated. The team from Szczecin held onto the ball for most of the time and stayed in control of the game. Regardless, Lech managed to create a few goal-scoring opportunities. In one of Lech’s offensive attempts, Alan Czerwiński, with the help of Kristoffer Velde, came close to scoring but his shot was stopped by Valentin Cojocaru. A moment later, it was Bartosz Mrozek who had to intervene when he faced Linus Wahlqvist one-on-one. The goalkeeper was kept busy by Pogoń’s offensive players and before the referee announced halftime, he added two more impressive interventions to his account, stopping Kamil Grosicki and Vahan Bichakhchyan.
The second half resembled the first 45 minutes of the game. Pogoń was in better shape on Sunday afternoon and proved it with the number of scoring chances. Wahlqvist’s shot caused problems for Mrozek, but fortunately for the hosts, Bartosz Salamon was in the right place at the right time and stopped the ball before it crossed the goal line. The Polish defender also played a crucial role in Lech’s winning goal – he was the one who redirected Joel Pereira’s cross to Mikael Ishak before the captain tapped the ball into the back of the net. The Swede’s successful attempt was the only goal of the afternoon, hence Lech added three important points to their league account.
