Lech Poznan won a league match for the first time this season. The home clash with Piast Gliwice ended with a 5:1 win for Lech, following the goals from Nicki Bille, Makuszewski, Gytkjaer (double) and Tralka. The 3 points helped Lech advance to the 6th rank in the league table.
The match could have begun terribly for Lech Poznan. Nielsen made a mistake in the opening minute of the game which resulted in a dangerous offensive action led by Jankowski. Piast’s forward raced into the box and passed to Vassiljev, but the latter’s shot was easily stopped by Buric. 2 minutes later the guests had another scoring chance, but, similarly to the previous action, Bukata’s attempt was saved by the keeper.
It took Lech quite a long time to build the first scoring chance of the match. The hosts were in possession of the ball for the majority of the time, but it wasn’t until the 20th minute that they fired a shot on target. Jozwiak’s attempt was accurate, but easy for the keeper to save. 7 minutes later, on the other end of the pitch, Buric had a difficult task to complete. The Bosnian keeper failed to catch Vassiljev’s shot, however, luckily for Lech, Dilaver ensured that the ball did not fall into the net.
In the 40th minute Lech took the lead. Kostevych recovered the ball on Piast’s half of the pitch, sent a pass to Jozwiak and the latter was fouled in the box. Nicki Bille converted the penalty kick into a goal – his 3rd this season. 4 minutes later the hosts added another one to their account. This time Gajos spotted Makuszewski who was left unmarked and the latter managed to beat Rusov with a strong shot from inside the box.
Lech’s players dominated the second half too. 4 minutes after both sides returned to the pitch, Nicki Bille had a great scoring chance, but his shot flew above the crossbar. Shortly afterwards Majewski could have added another goal, but his shot was saved by the keeper and Lech was awarded a corner kick. The hosts were determined to score again. In the 55th minute Makuszewski’s attempt was stopped by Piast’s goalkeeper.
Piast’s coach decided to make 2 substitutions in order to alter the score. Barisic came in and scored a goal 5 minutes later. Vassiljev crossed the ball into the box and Bukata redirected it into the back of the net with a header. Lech responded with an individual run from Jozwiak, but his attempt was off target.
The goal brought a lot of optimism to the guests, but it was Lech that kept on dominating the play. Gytkjaer appearance on the pitch influenced the scored. In the 78th minute the forward’s half-volley shot hit the back of the net. 5 minutes Tralka added another one with a flat shot past Rusov and into the goal. Gytkjaer set the final score in the 85th minute.
