Lech Poznan beat Miedz Legnica 2:1 in a home league clash. Christian Gytkjaer and Joao Amaral scored for the hosts.
Djurdjevic’s players dominated the opening minutes of the game and quickly took the lead after Gytkjaer dribbled around one of the defenders in Miedz’s penalty box and placed the ball in the back of the net with a strong shot. Following the goal, the play moved into the midfield where the two teams fought for possession. After 20 minutes, Amaral attempted to surprise the keeper from Legnica but his shot hit the post.
Both teams struggled to take control of the match. Lech occasionally attacked but neither Jozwiak’s, nor Gytkjaer’s attempts were good enough to beat the goalkeeper. Shortly before halftime, Forsell surprised Lech’s defensive line with a dangerous shot that Putnocky managed to stop in time. A moment later, Goutas tried heading the ball into the back of the net but his shot was off target.
The first minutes of the second half were also dominated by the team from Poznan and, once more, the hosts managed to score very quickly. This time, Gytkjaer and Amaral swapped roles and it was the latter that tapped the ball into the back of the net after receiving a good pass from his Danish teammate. Lech remained in possession of the ball even after changing the score to two-nil.
20 minutes into the second half, Tiba sent a well-timed and precise cross into the box where Gytkjaer was waiting, but Miedz’s defenders blocked the attempt successfully. A moment later, the two mentioned footballers led a counterattack that was stopped by the defenders from Legnica. The guests responded with an offensive attack of their own which Szczepaniak converted into a goal.
10 minutes before the final whistle, Miedz had a good opportunity to equalize, however, Piatkowski’s shot hit the side net of the goal. Gytkjaer’s attempt that followed was equally imprecise. Shortly afterward, Camara came one-on-one with Lech’s keeper, but luckily for the hosts, Wasilewski returned in time to stop the offensive attack. Amaral tried changing the score very shortly before the final whistle, but he failed to beat the keeper despite delivering a beautiful shot and the match ended with a two-one win for Lech.
