The 28th round of Lotto Ekstraklasa was marked by the exhilarating clash between Lech Poznan and Legia Warsaw. The match ended with a 2:1 win for the team from the capital. Lech took the lead in the 82nd minute following a header from Kedziora, but the guests found the net twice before half-time and collected all three points. It is the first time that Lech losses a match this spring.
Since the very beginning of the game, both teams built multiple scoring chances for themselves, delivering a great spectacle to the fans. Lech was the first one to attack. In the 4th minute Kostevych sent a pass to Majewski and the latter ran into the box and gave the ball to Kownacki. However, since the last pass was a bit too strong, the young forward failed to reach the ball and tap it into the back of the net. Legia responded a couple of minutes later with Odjidja’s individual run which he finished off with a shot that was easily saved by Putnocky.
Both teams had their moments of brilliance and dominated the game. Lech was the first team to succeed at controlling the play. However, since Lech spent most of the time on Legia’s half of the pitch, the hosts were vulnerable to counterattack. In the 13th minute Guilherme built a quick offensive action that caused problems to Lech’s defensive line. Kucharczyk finished off the action with a strong shot that forced Putnocky to intervene.
Set pieces were another element of the game that gave both teams good scoring opportunities. Before the referee announced half-time, both teams could have scored. In the 38th minute Majewski converted a free kick into a cross to Gajos, who was left unmarked in th box. The latter fired a strong shot from an acute angle, but Malarz intervened perfectly. Meanwhile, in the 45th minute Moulina’s cross reached Radovic and the latter attempted to head the ball into the back of the net, but his shot stopped on the crossbar.
After halftime, Lech continued dominating on the pitch. The hosts remained in possession of the ball for the majority of the time and their offensive actions caused a lot of problems to Legia’s defensive line. Lech’s indisputable control was proved by the number of set pieces awarded to the hosts in the opening minutes of the first half. One of such set pieces was finished off by Bednarek, but the young defender was caught offside. A moment later Kedziora had a chance of his own, but his attempt was off target.
An hour into the match Legia seemed to have been trapped in its own half of the pitch. Lech built a couple of good, team offensive actions, but Legia’s defenders blocked the shots successfully or intervened at the right time. Bjelica’s team also had to remain cautious, since Legia was always waiting for a chance to counterattack. Although the guests’ quick offensive actions were dangerous, they lacked the precision to place the ball in the back of Lech’s net.
Marcin Robak was sent in on the pitch to bring fresh energy to the team. However, he wasn’t the one that scored in the 82nd minute. Jevtic converted a free kick into a cross that Kedziora turned into a lethal header that left Malarz absolutely helpless. Legia was desperate not to lose points that night and they managed to equalize in the 88th minute. Dabrowski’s shot from inside the box was too difficult for Putnocky to save. Both teams had one more goal scoring chance before final time. First, Robak raced into the box and fired a shot, but it was off target. Legia responded with an offensive action of its own. Odjidja sent a cross into the box that Hamalainen converted into a precise header, impossible for Putnocky to save. Therefore, when the referee whistled for the last time that night, Legia had 3 more points on its account.
