Lech Poznań used the international break to schedule a training match against KKS 1925 Kalisz. The team from Poznań beat the third-division opponent 4:0 following goals from Michał Skóraś and Aron Johannsson.
The coaches have agreed to play two halves, 40 minutes each. Dariusz Żuraw had fewer players at his disposal than usual because of the international break, but also due to injuries – Pedro Tiba is struggling with a minor health issue, Mikael Ishak is still getting back to form after an injury, whereas Dani Ramirez was given a few days off to travel to Spain where his daughter was recently born.
The top-tier side was in control of the match since the first whistle. Lech enclosed their rival on the opponent’s half of the pitch and within 11 minutes, the hosts had already found a way to place the ball in the back of KKS Kalisz’s net. Aron Johannsson set Michał Skóraś up with a well-timed pass that the latter converted into a goal with a strong shot. The 21-year-old, who scored his debut league goal for Lech on Saturday, was very active on the pitch that afternoon. In the closing minutes of the first half, the Academy player tried scoring again, but instead of getting his name on the goal scorer sheet, he played a key role in the offensive attempt that resulted in the second goal for the hosts. Skóraś passed the ball to Jan Sýkora who dribbled past one of the defending players and sent a cross into the penalty area. Johannsson was waiting in the right place at the right time and redirected the ball into the net.
In Ramirez’s absence, Sýkora was positioned as an offensive midfielder and delivered a great performance on Friday afternoon. He even had a chance to add a goal of his own, however, his shot was slightly off target. Before the referee announced halftime, Vasyl Kravets also tried scoring but his attempt bounced off the post, whereas Jesper Karlström’s shot was saved by the keeper.
The match wasn’t as dynamic and exciting in the second half. KKS 1925 Kalisz stayed in possession of the ball for longer chunks of time whilst Lech waited for opportunities to counterattack. Tymoteusz Puchacz was close to getting an assist during one of such counterattacks but Alan Czerwiński failed to convert his pass into the third goal. On the other end of the pitch, Filip Bednarek – who replaced Mickey van der Hart in the second half – had practically no opportunities to show his goalkeeping skills.
It’s worth mentioning that after a long absence caused by injury, Tymoteusz Klupś finally reappeared on the pitch on Friday afternoon. Moreover, the Academy player played a key role in the two goals that Lech scored in the second half. First, his great dribbling skills helped him pass one of the defending players, race into the box and set Skóraś up with a great pass that he effortlessly redirected into the back of the net. Then, a few minutes later, Klupś also showed some impressive dribbling skills which resulted in the defender’s error and a penalty kick being awarded to Lech, which Skóraś converted into his third, and the team’s fourth goal.
