Lech Poznan was beaten by Gornik Zabrze 2:4 in the Saturday league clash. Khoblenko and Gajos scored for the team from Poznan, however, the two goals weren’t enough to stop Lech from falling a rank down in the league table.
After an average opening of the match, Lech started creating scoring chances and caused trouble in Gornik’s penalty box. In the 8th minute, Jozwiak received a pass right in front of the box and fired a shot that stopped on the post. Gornik responded immediately, but their attempt was less dangerous. Kadzior sent a backward pass to Matuszek who decided to shoot, but his try was easily stopped by Putnocky.
Shortly afterward, Jozwiak had another opportunity to score, but his one-on-one clash with Gornik’s keeper ended with the latter stopping the ball from falling into the back of the net. 20 minutes into the match, the wasted chances took revenge on Lech. Kurzawa raced down the left flank, spotted Urynowicz in the penalty box and sent him a precise cross that the latter converted into an impressive goal. Bjelica’s players were determined to equalize as quickly as they could, but Gytkjaer’s and Jozwiak’s attempts were either stopped by the keeper, or by the defenders.
The match was undoubtedly an exhilarating clash and most of the dangerous offensive actions took place around and in Gornik’s penalty box. Klups attempted to head the ball into the back of the net after he received a cross from Jozwiak, but his shot was slightly off target. Meanwhile, Gytkjaer’s dangerous attempt was successfully stopped by Gornik’s young keeper. After being enclosed in their own defensive zone for a long period of time, Gornik finally found space to counterattack and when they did, the score changed to 2:0 thanks to Wieteska who was at the right time in the right place.
10 minutes into the second half of the match, Lech had a good opportunity to score a goal. Tralka won a direct clash with one of Gornik’s defenders and raced into the box but in the end, he lacked precision. In the 65th minute, Gornik could have set the score to 3:0 after a successful counterattack, but Emir Dilaver managed to stop Kadzior at the last moment. Shortly afterward, the players from Zabrze changed the score once more. This time Matuszek scored with a shot from a short distance.
With 15 minutes left, Kurzawa and his teammates started attacking once more and one of their counterattacks ended with another, fourth goal. Kurzawa’s attempt was stopped by Putnocky but the goalkeeper was helpless when Kadzior delivered the final blow. Lech responded 2 minutes later with a goal from Khoblenko who came on the pitch a moment earlier. Gajos set the final score to 2:4 in the 90th minute with an impressive bicycle kick, but that wasn’t enough to save Lech from conceding 3 points.
