Lech Poznań had been unbeaten in the last 7 games prior to the clash with Górnik Zabrze. The Sunday league match was of high importance to John van den Brom and his players as it was their chance to jump on the podium of PKO BP Ekstraklasa.
Lech’s coach made a few changes in the line-up before the clash with Górnik. Alan Czerwiński was absent due to accumulated yellow cards and Michał Gurgul made his way into the starting eleven for the first time in his career.
The match against Górnik looked similar to Lech’s previous game, with Radomiak. The possession of the ball and control of the game did not bear fruit. Górnik Zabrze put an emphasis on the defence and waited for opportunities to counterattack. One of their quick offensive attempts resulted in the only goal of the match. Daisuke Yokota took advantage of Lech’s misunderstanding in the midfield – first, he intercepted a pass and then finished off the team attempt with a precise shot.
The second half looked very similar to the first 45 minutes. Lech players effortlessly held the ball at their feet but couldn’t convert the possession into goal-scoring opportunities. Meanwhile, Górnik was more effective in the offence and had a good chance to change the score to 2:0, but this time Filip Bednarek stopped Yokota in a one-on-one situation. Gradually, Lech’s domination on the pitch intensified. Nonetheless, even the trio of Filip Marchwiński, Joao Amaral, and Adriel Ba Loua who came on in the second half couldn’t turn the tables. As a result, the guests added three points to their account.
It was Lech’s third match in a row without a win. On Saturday, at 5:30 pm, John van den Brom’s squad will have a chance to bounce back when they face Cracovia at home.
