Lech Poznań advanced to the III qualifying round of Europa League. The team from Poznań won the second leg against FK Haugesund 2:0. Darko Jevtić and Nicki Bille scored the goals for Lech. Meanwhile, the guests finished the match in 10 men following a red card for Abdi.
The hosts lost the first leg and, therefore, needed to focus on the offensive since the opening minutes. In the 3rd minute Makuszewski passed the ball to Gumny, while the latter raced into the box and sent a pass parallel to the goal. However, Gytkjaer failed to redirect it into the net due to the goalkeeper’s quick intervention. Shortly afterward /, Situm’s header was again stopped by the keeper. Bratveit was kept busy, but he could also count on his teammates from the defensive line. In the 10th minute Knudsen was the first who stopped Jevtic’s shot.
Further into the match, the guests got a couple of scoring chances too. The Norwegian team focused on the counterattack. One of Haugesund’s rapid offensive actions ended with a shot from Tronstad, but the attempt was stopped by Putnocky. Meanwhile, Lech seemed closer and closer to scoring. In the 23rd minute Jevtic ran into the box and passed to Gytkjaer, but the Dane’s shot was off target. 4 minutes later Makuszewski spotted Situm who was left unmarked, but his attempt wasn’t precise either.
Nonetheless, Lech manager to change the score in the 32nd mintue when Jevtic converted a free kick into an impressive goal from over 30m. A couple of minutes later Gajos came close to scoring a second one, but his header was redirected above the crossbar. The 21-year-old keeper saved his team from conceding another goal when he stopped Gytkjaer in a one-on-one situation.
Satisfied with the score, Lech didn’t increase the tempo of the match in the 2nd half. The hosts tried to remain calm and keep the ball for the majority of the time. A couple more scoring chances came along too. For instance, in the 51st minute Makuszewski raced down the right flank, crossed the ball into the box, but Situm’s attempt was stopped by the keeper yet again.
The Norwegian players dominated the match, but they struggled to convert the advantage into an equalizer. Abdi’s and Kiss’s attempts were easily saved by Putnocky. In the 67th minute Skjerve had a good chance to score when he was left unmarked on the 8th meter, but his shot flew above Lech’s crossbar. On the other end of the pitch Lech kept on trying to secure the win. In the 73rd minute Gumny’s decent cross was blocked by the defenders.
The hosts dominated the closing minutes of the second half. Abdi received a second yellow card, which weakened the guests significantly. In the 84th minute Gajos spotted a lot of free space where Makuszewski was positioned and sent his teammate a well-timed pass, but the goalkeeper saved Gajos’s shot. Radut recovered the ball before the defenders could clear the threat, but his attempt was off target. However, that wasn’t the end - Lech built a lethal counterattack in the injury time. Putnocky caught the ball, sent a long pass to Rakels who led the counterattack and let Nicki Bille set the final score with a flat shot into the back of the net.
