Lech Poznań - Cracovia 2:1

Lech finally put an end to the poor performances in the league. The team from Poznań collected three points in the 5th round of Lotto Ekstraklasa, having beaten Cracovia 2:1. Bednarek and Robak scored the goals for Lech.

The opening minutes of the clash were chaotic and lacked fluidity. The referee was forced to stop the game often and therefore both sides had a number of set pieces they could convert into a goal. One of Cracovia’s corner kicks could have ended terribly for Lech when Putnocky failed to catch the ball, but luckily for the hosts, the defenders managed to kick the ball far away from the penalty area. As it later turned out, it was Cracovia’s best goal-scoring opportunity in the first half.

As the minutes passed, Lech gained control over the play. The team from Poznań was in the possession of the ball most of the time and that resulted in a number of shots fired at the rival’s goal. Jevtić was the first one to try and surprise the goalkeeper with a free kick, but Sandomierski didn’t have problems catching the ball. Shortly afterwards, Kadar fired a shot at the goal. His attempt wasn’t on target, but it was close since the ball flew a few centimeters above the crossbar.

Pawłowski was the key figure in the Friday clash. The winger could have added a few assists to his statistics, but neither did Kędziora, Trałka, nor Bille manage to place the ball in the net. Meanwhile, Lech tried playing fast and creative football, but despite a couple of good goal-scoring opportunities, at halftime the score remained a goalless draw.

The beginning of the first half was marked by Makuszewski’s two shots. In both situations the midfielder had plenty of space to shoot, but neither of the attempts was good enough to result in a goal. Bille could have scored too when in the 58th minute he ran down the wing, cut into the center of the field and fired a shot that flew close to the post.

However, in the 64th minute Lech finally succeeded. Majewski was the one to convert a corner kick into a good cross. Kędziora extended the pass and Bednarek redirected the ball into an empty goal. Cracovia was determined to equalize, but it was Lech that scored first. In the 78th minute the hosts built a counterattack led by Pawłowski. He and Robak had one defender and the goalkeeper in front of them, thus Robak had no problems placing the ball in the net. Despite a two-goal loss, Cracovia managed to score a goal of their own before the referee ended the match. In the 81st minute Covilo found himself in the right place at the right time and tapped the ball into the net. Nevertheless, it was Lech that celebrated its first win in the league when the referee whistled for the last time.
