Lech Poznan beat Cracovia 2:0 in the 2nd round of Lotto Ekstraklasa. Jevtic and Gytkjaer scored the goals for Lech.
The first ones to visit Lech’s stadium this league season were Cracovia. The guests had a hard time in the opening minutes and struggled to stop Lech’s offensive actions. It didn’t take long for the team from Poznan to create the first scoring chance. A great team attack ended with Kostevych’s cross into the box which turned out to be too strong for anyone to intercept.
Gradually Lech started to cause more and more problems to Cracovia’s defensive line whilst the guests counterattacked every now and then. In the 20th minute, the team from Poznan took the lead when Kostevych crossed the ball into the box where Gytkjaer was waiting. The Dane’s attempt was blocked but the goalkeeper failed to catch the ball and Jevtic’s shot was impossible to stop. The conceded goal forced Cracovia to focus more on the offensive but the hosts successfully kept their rival away from their own box and controlled the match.
Shortly before halftime, Cracovia had a perfect chance to equalize. The referee awarded the team from Cracow with a penalty kick following a handball in the penalty area. Helik approached the ball but instead of placing it in the back of the net, he sent it flying above the crossbar and wasted a great opportunity to score. The second half wasn’t as exhilarating as the first part of the match. Lech was in possession of the ball for a majority of the time and looked for ways to score another goal. In the 52nd minute, Makuszewski received a great ball from Tiba and decided for an individual run that he finished off with a precise cross into the box. However, Gytkjaer who was waiting in the penalty area was blocked by Cracovia’s defenders.
15 minutes before the final whistle, Amaral, who replaced Jevtic on the pitch, had an opportunity to score a second goal for Lech. Makuszewski sent a pass above the head of Cracovia’s defenders but Amaral’s shot was successfully stopped by Gostomski. In the 81st minute, Cracovia had a goal-scoring chance of their own but Dimun’s attempt was off target. Cracovia intensified their offensive attacks, thus leaving space for Lech to counterattack. That’s what happened in the 87th minute when Gytkjaer converted Gajos’s pass into a header that Gostomski was unable to stop, setting the final score to 2:0.
