Following the clash with ŁKS Łódź (3:2), Lech welcomed Cracovia – another team fighting to avoid relegation – at home. Prior to the Sunday match, the team from Cracow was positioned just above the bottom of the table, whereas Lech had an opportunity to catch up to the current leaders - Jagiellonia Białystok - who lost points that weekend.
The two sides had a vastly different approach to the Sunday league clash and it was evident since the first whistle – the hosts were determined to win, whereas Cracovia’s objective was not to lose. In the first half, Lech put intense pressure on their rival, creating numerous goal-scoring chances. Mikael Ishak came close to scoring but in a one-on-one clash, he failed to beat Lukas Hrosso – although the ball did roll between the goalkeeper’s legs, he stopped it before it crossed the goal line. Not long later, the score came close to changing once again, but this time thanks to… David Kristjan Olafsson whose unfortunate intervention nearly ended up resulting in an own-goal. Thankfully for the Icelandic player, the ball bounced off the post. A few moments later, Afonso Sousa tried surprising Cracovia’s keeper with a bicycle kick, but Hrosso didn’t have problems stopping the shot. Meanwhile, the team from Cracow visited Lech’s penalty area just once – Patryk Makuch sent a good backward pass to Benjamin Kallman, who was running into the box, but the latter’s strong, flat shot was slightly off target.
In the second half, Lech struggled to cause problems for Cracovia’s defensive line. Meanwhile, the guests came close to scoring an own goal for the second time that afternoon, this time as a result of Kamil Glik’s intervention. A few minutes later, Adriel Ba Loua wasted a great goal-scoring chance when he failed to send a precise pass to Kristoffer Velde who had an open net. In the end, the 40-thousand crowd gathered at Bułgarska Street did not witness any goals on Sunday afternoon and the two teams had to share league points.
