In the 21st league game of the season, Lech Poznan beat Termalica Bruk-Bet Nieciecza at home 3:0. Dawid Kownacki, Marcin Robak and Darko Jevtic scored the goals for the team from Poznan. The win places Lech on the fourth rank in the league table.
Lech had control over the game since the first whistle. The team from Poznan remained in possession of the ball for the majority of the match, however, none of the offensive actions resulted in good goal scoring opportunities, until the 14th minute. Majewski’s cross from a corner kick reached Wilusz, who left his marksmen behind and fired a header in the direction of the goal. Unfortunately for the hosts, the defender’s attempt was off target.
Nonetheless, Lech had to remain cautious. Termalica occasionally attacked, often following set pieces awarded to the hosts, and a couple of those counterattacks could have ended badly for Lech. However, the team from Nieciecza struggled to convert their chances into shots on target. Meanwhile, in the 29th minute, on the other end of the pitch, Majewski’s cross reached Kownacki and the young forward hit the crossbar. That was a warning for the guests.
The same striker played a key role in another offensive action a couple of minutes afterwards. Gajos spotted Jevtic, who had a lot of free space in front of him and sent his teammate a well-timed pass. Jevtic redirected the ball into the box where Kownacki was already waiting. The youngster was stopped by Osyra at the last moment, but the defender fouled Kownacki and the referee whistled a penalty kick. The striker converted the set piece into a goal shortly afterwards.
The beginning of the second half was marked by Lech’s intensified pressure in the offensive. Kownacki’s and Majewski’s attempt caused problems to Termalica’s defensive line, but they did not result in a goal. Lech also attempted to play with the wings, but the crosses were often imprecise or blocked.
Termalica was determined to equalise, looking for chances to counterattack. However, the hosts controlled the game and kept on creating opportunities to score. One of the corner kicks awarded to Lech could have ended with a goal. Majewski’s cross into the box reached Gajos, who fired a shot. Instead of falling into the back of the net, Kedziora found the ball by his feet and attempted to redirect it into the goal. However, his strong shot stopped on the post.
Termalica’s coach had nothing to lose and so he decided to send in two new strikers. That resulted immediately in extra power in the offensive. Lech had to focus on stopping Termalica’s restless attacks. Just when it seemed that Lech would have to struggle in order to win the game, Wojciech Kedziora touched the ball with his hand in his own penalty area and Lech was awarded a penalty kick. Robak had no problems placing the ball in the net.
The striker could add another goal to his tally in the injury time, but he failed to beat the goalkeeper one-on-one. However, Robak did not waste the next opportunity that came along. He won a direct clash with one of the defenders and was fouled in the box. This time Jevtic was the one who converted the penalty kick into a goal and set the final score to 3:0.
