In the second training match of the pre-season, Lech faced Brøndby IF. The team from Poznan beat the Danish rival 1:0 following a goal from Tymoteusz Puchacz.
After the friendly game with Widzew Lodz, the team from Poznan was going to face the fifth best Danish football team - Brøndby IF. Initially, the kick-off time was scheduled for 5 pm however, due to the heat wave, the two teams agreed to start the match two hours later. The clash with the Danish club was Lech’s second training match of the pre-season. For the past week, the squad from Poznan has been residing in Opalenica where the pre-season camp is being held. On Thursday, the team is going to return to their home stadium.
Shortly after the referee initiated the game, Lech already had a chance to score the first goal. After less than a minute, Jevtic recovered the ball nearby Brøndby’s penalty area and was left alone with the goalkeeper. However, Schwabe not only stopped his attempt but also successfully collected the ball following Amaral’s follow-up shot. In the 10th minute, Puchacz was more effective than his teammates and managed to change the score. The youngster who has just returned from loan to GKS-Katowice placed the ball in the net right next to the left post with a little help from Amaral.
In the next minutes, the Danes took control of the match. High pressing and offensive approach enabled Brøndby to create numerous scoring chances. One of their attempts resulted in an interception of one of Lech’s passes and although the Danish team put the ball in the net, the linesman raised his flag informing about an offside. At a certain stage, the squad from Poznan started escaping from Brøndby’s high pressing with short, dynamic passes but they struggled to create goal-scoring opportunities.
Finally, 10 minutes before the end of the first half, Makuszewski found enough space to fire a shot at Brøndby’s goal, however, his dangerous attempt was just slightly off target and the ball flew above the crossbar. Despite the Danes visibly dominating on the pitch, Lech seemed to be more efficient. Jevtic created multiple goal-scoring chances for Rogne and Puchacz, but neither of them managed to convert the precise passes into a goal. Hence, the first part of the game ended with a 1:0 lead for Lech.
In the second half, Lech’s B team players shone. One of Skoras’ and Kaminski’s duet offensive attempt ended with the latter coming very close to scoring, but luckily for the Danish side, the youngster born in 2002 failed to reach the ball and tap it into the net. During the halftime, Brøndby’s coach made 10 changes in the line-up which had a significant impact on the Wednesday night spectacle. The Danes were visibly determined to beat van der Hart and equalize, however, for most of the time, Lech’s new goalkeeper didn’t have to intervene other than help his teammates with verbal commands.
In the last part of the game, Brøndby remained in possession of the ball for a majority of the time but that didn’t affect the score. Meanwhile, whenever Lech got a chance to attack, they caused problems to the Danish defensive line. Amaral and Skoras were some of the most active players and they forced Schwabe to intervene a couple of time. In addition, one of Makuszewski’s crosses into the box reach Zhamaledtinov who just came on the pitch, and if it wasn’t for the keeper’s impressive save, the Russian’s header would have landed in the net. Neither of the sides managed to create any more scoring chance, hence it was Lech that triumphed in the Wednesday training match.
In the third friendly game of the pre-season, Lech is going to face AEK Larnaka. The match is scheduled for Thursday, 6 pm. The clash will be live-streamed by Lech TV, therefore supporters will be able to watch the game on the club’s official YouTube channel.
