In the second friendly game of the winter training camp, Lech Poznan faced Beroe Stara Zagora and won 3:1. At halftime, the team from Poznan was one goal down, but Kownacki’s, Tomczyk’s and Robak’s goals helped Lech secure a win.
Before the match truly began, the Bulgarian players already built a chance to score. Mapuku was left one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but despite having a lot of space, he fired a shot that was off target. Two minutes later Lech’s players attacked. Jevtic converted a free kick into a cross into the box and Kownacki fired a strong shot. However, his attempt wasn’t on target either.
Lech was more active than its rival, with its young forward Kownacki eagerly looking for space to shoot. In the 18th minute, the striker received a pass from Gajos and fired a shot, but not on target. 6 minutes later the same footballer received a cross from a corner kick, but his shot was easily saved by the goalkeeper.
Lech seemed to control the match, but it was Beroe that had better goal scoring chances. In the 35th minute, the Bulgarian team came very close to scoring. Kirilov dribbled past Wasilewski and spotted Mapuku, who was left unmarked. However, the latter sent the ball flying above the crossbar. Before the referee announced halftime, the Bulgarians found a way to beat Putnocky. Zehirov well-timed, precise pass put Kirilov one-on-one with Lech’s goalkeeper and the forward placed the ball in the net.
Lech’s players were eager to catch up with their rival as quickly as possible. In the opening minutes of the second half Kownacki showed his potential in yet another offensive action, but this time the forward finished off a team play with a bicycle kick. In the 56th minute, Beroe got another opportunity to score. Putnocky’s pass was intercepted by Ohene and the latter had an empty goal in front of him… But sent the ball flying above the crossbar. 3 minutes later Makuszewski came close to equalising when he finished off Lech’s counterattack, but his shot was blocked at the last moment.
After an hour a couple of new players appeared on the pitch and they were meant to bring fresh energy to the team. Bjelica decided to try out a formation with two forwards. Marcin Robak joined Kownacki on the field, but even despite the changes, the Bulgarians remained more dangerous with their offensive actions. In the 69th minute, Mapuku was left unmarked again, but he wasted the opportunity to score.
Finally, in the 74th minute, Lech’s offensive attempts resulted in a goal. Majewski’s cross into the box reached Kownacki and the youngster beat the goalkeeper, but with a bit of problems. The referee whistled an offside, but after a long discussion, he announced that Lech’s goal was onside and the score changed to a draw. The decision changed the match completely and since that moment Lech took absolute control of the match. In the 89th minute, Kedziora sent the ball to Makuszewski and the player dribbled past a few defenders and passed to Tomczyk. The youngster raced into the penalty box and beat the goalkeeper. In the 90th minute, Robak set the score to 3:1 with a precise shot from a close distance.
