Lech Poznan won the Saturday home clash with Arka Gdynia. Gajos, Makuszewski and Situm set the final score to 3:0. The first scorer received a red card in the second half. Despite playing in 10 men, Lech won the match and is now ranked 1st in the league.
Both sides attacked intensively since the opening minutes. Both, Lech and Arka, played open football, but the first team had more scoring chances. Kostevych and Situm were very active on the left flank and caused problems to Arka’s defensive line with their crosses. However, the defenders from Gdynia marked Gytkjaer effectively and the Dane failed to convert the crosses into goals.
Nonetheless, Lech took the lead early in the 20th minute when Makuszewski crossed the ball into the box from a free kick and Gajos redirected it into the back of the net with a header. The hosts had another scoring chance soon after, but Majewski’s and Situm’s offensive action was stopped by one of Arka’s defenders at the last moment.
Following the goal, Lech started to play a bit slower and concentrated on stopping Arka’s, but also actively looked for chances to counterattack. One of such rapid offensive actions Makuszewski could convert into a goal, but Gajos’s pass turned out to be too strong. Shortly before the break, Arka had an opportunity to equalize, however, Marcjanik’s shot from inside the box was off target.
Arka;s strategy for the second half was to attack more bravely and equalize as quickly as possible. Shortly after halftime, Nalepa tried surprising Putnocky, but his shot from outside the box was slightly off target. Lech responded with an attempt from Kostevych, but his shot was saved by Steinbors. In the 53rd minute Situm had a great scoring chance, however, his attempt stopped on the post.
3 minutes later Lech found itself in trouble. Gajos received a red card following a brutal foul in Kuna and the hosts were one man down. Arka knew it was a great chance for them to break Lech’s defensive line. Meanwhile, coach Bjelica made a surprising substitution – Nicki Bille appeared on the pitch. However, he wasn’t the key player on the pitch – Makuszewski and Situm were the engines of the team. Despite being very active, neither of the wingers managed to add a goal to Lech’s account.
The hosts needed to defend their goal effectively, but they also needed to score to avoid last-minute complications. In the 74th minute Situm received a cross from Majewski and although his attempt was stopped by Steinbors, the goalkeeper was helpless when Makuszewski sent the ball into the back of the net. However, that wasn’t the end of goals. In the 83rd minute Barkroth’s cross into the box was converted into a third goal by Situm. The winger's header set the final score to 3:0.
