Lech Poznan drew in a friendly match with AEK Larnaca. The first official game of the season is scheduled for Thursday, July 12th.
The clash with AEK Larnaca was the last opportunity for Lech’s training staff to practice tactical strategies ahead of the Europa League qualifiers. The friendly game against the Cyprus team was balanced and for the first 15 minutes, neither of the team had a decent scoring chance. Lech came close to taking the lead in the 18th minute when the Polish team was given a free kick on the left flank following a foul. However, Radut’s shot was slightly off target.
Shortly afterward, Lech’s coach was forced to make the first substitution. Jozwiak suffered an injury and Barkroth replaced him on the pitch. Within a minute, the Polish team created another scoring chance. Tomczyk received the ball in the midfield, ran towards Larnaca’s goal and finished the offensive action with a shot off target. The Cyprian players had a couple of opportunities to score too, but Lech’s defensive successfully stopped most of Larnaca’s offensive actions, often using an offside trap. 7 minutes before halftime, Djurdjevic’s team had another opportunity to change the score. The referee awarded Lech with a free kick close to the penalty box. However, Radut’s attempt was off target once more.
In the 59th minute, Lech’s coach decided to make numerous substitutions. The only footballers that stayed on the pitch for 90 minutes was Putnocky, Orlowski, and Makuszewski. Shortly after the changes in the squad, Lech had a good chance to take the lead. Jevtic sent a precise cross into the box and Gytkjaer converted the pass into a header that flew a couple of centimeters above the crossbar. Lech attacked more frequently than their Cyprian rival. Makuszewski, Jevtic, and Tomasik had chances to score but neither of them succeeded and the last sparring match of Lech’s pre-season ended with a draw.
