Lech once again triumphs in the Poznań derby. On Saturday, John van den Brom’s squad faced Warta Poznań at home and won 2:0 thanks to a brace from Michał Skóraś.
Ever since Warta returned to the top division, they haven’t found a way to beat their rival from Poznań. Despite struggling to break down Warta’s very defensive formation, Lech extended their series of matches without a defeat against the Greens.
A few minutes before halftime, John van den Brom’s squad found a way to place the ball in the net. Jesper Karlstrom's shot at Warta’s goal was blocked, but Michał Skóraś’s follow-up attempt hit the back of the net.
In the second half of the match, Warta opened up as they shifted their focus to the offence. Although, as a result, Lech’s defensive line had much more work to do than in the first 45 minutes, Warta’s defenders also had to stay cautious as they were being tested regularly.
In the 62nd minute, Lech was awarded a penalty kick for a foul on Skóraś. Mikael Ishak’s shot hit the crossbar and although the Swedish captain put the ball in the back of the net with a header, the follow-up shot was disallowed. It was Ishak’s second wasted penalty kick in a row.
Fortunately for the hosts, Skóraś was more effective in the 88th minute when he beat Adrian Lis with a strong shot under the crossbar. Warta had an opportunity to score a goal in the added time, but Filip Bednarek successfully stopped Adam Zrelak’s shot from a penalty kick.
Lech will play their next match on Thursday – at 9 pm they will face Fiorentina at Bułgarska Street in the first leg of the UECL quarterfinals.
