A difficult start but a happy ending - in the end, Lech Poznań achieved their objective and defeated Stal Mielec 3:1. As a result, Skorża’s squad held onto the second position in the PKO BP Ekstraklasa table.
The Sunday home clash with Stal Mielec didn’t kick off well for the hosts. Before the game had really begun, the team from Mielec already found a way to place the ball in the net. Dominik Steczyk was left plenty of space and with a smart, precise shot, he put Stal in the lead. As a result, the Poznań Stadium fell silent, but not for long since Lech quickly responded with not one, but two goals. Within 10 minutes, it was already 1:1 thanks to Amaral's beautiful, technical shot, and then in 31st minute, Ishak changed the score to 2:1.
From then on, Skorża’s squad was in full control of the game. The second half was dominated by the players from Poznań and they even managed to add a third goal to their account. Pedro Tiba was the one who crossed the ball into the box and Stal’s defender, Mateusz Żyro, unluckily redirected it into his own net.
Thanks to this win, Lech still has a shot at the Championship title. However, since Raków also won their game (against Górnik Łęczna, 2:1), the team from Poznań is ranked second.
Lech’s next match is the Fortuna Polish Cup final, against the above-mentioned top-division team. The clash is scheduled for May 2nd, at 4 pm, and it will be held at the PGE National Stadium in Warsaw. Meanwhile, in the next league game (May 8th), Lech will play against Piast Gliwice.
