It was one of the most crushing losses Lech has endured at home in the recent history. On Wednesday, the team from Poznań faced Pogoń Szczecin in the postponed match of the 5th round of PKO Ekstraklasa. The guests triumphed 4:0.
On that particular December evening, absolutely nothing went according to plan for Lech. The drama began hours before the game when it was announced that Eugeniusz Głoziński, who has been involved with the club for many years as the Kit Manager, had just passed away.
Lech’s performance on the pitch didn’t cheer anyone up as the hosts were dominated by their rival and eventually lost 0:4. Before the match truly kicked off, Pogoń already had a goal on their account – in the 3rd minute, Thomas Rogne placed the ball in his own net when attempting to stop a cross.
The team from Poznań conceded two more goals shortly before halftime. First, Sebastian Kowalczyk beat Filip Bednarek in a one-on-one situation and then a few minutes later, Kamil Drygas converted a penalty kick into a third goal.
Pogoń sealed the deal with the fourth goal in the 91st minute from substitute Tomas Podstawski.
