In the 32nd round of PKO Ekstraklasa, Lech drew 0:0 in a home clash with Pogoń Szczecin. The team from Poznań now has the same amount of league points as Piast Gliwice who is ranked second.
After the most recent clash with Pogoń which Lech won 4:0, Żuraw and his squad expected their opponents to change the tactics drastically, and they were right. Even though Lech dominated the match since the opening minutes, they struggled to create scoring chances. The first, and only, goal-scoring opportunity of the first half belonged to Pogoń but luckily for Lech, Stec’s shot from inside the box was slightly off target. For the remaining part of the first half, we saw the two teams fight for the ball in the midfield and fail to build attractive offensive attempts which definitely disappointed the supporters who came to see the game live.
The second half was definitely more exhilarating with both sides improving their shooting statistics. Still, it wasn’t their best performance. Whenever Żuraw sent in Puchacz, the right wing became the engine of Lech’s offensive attempts. Finally, the hosts created a good scoring chance but Marchwiński’s flat shot was blocked by the defender. A few minutes later, Kostevych tried surprising the keeper with a shot from outside the box, but this time Pogoń’s defenders also successfully stopped the ball. In the following attempt, Puchacz came very close to scoring. The midfielder received a pass from Gumny, dribbled past one of the defenders in the box, and fired a flat shot at the goal. Unfortunately for the hosts, he missed the target by a few centimetres.
5 minutes before halftime, Lech had another opportunity to collect three league points. This time Kostevych rushed into the box and tried surprising the goalkeeper with a shot from an acute angle but Stipic won the clash. Since neither of the teams managed to find a way to place the ball in the net, they had to share points. In the next game, Lech will be facing Śląsk Wrocław.
