In the 16th round of PKO Ekstraklasa, Lech Poznan beat the current Polish Champions – Piast Gliwice. The hosts won 3:0 following two goals from Gytkjaer and one form Amaral.
The clash with Piast Gliwice initiated the second round of the main phase of the season. The current Polish Champions emphasized that they were traveling to Poznan with an aim to collect 3 points, however, in the opening minutes of the match, it seemed like it was Lech that was more likely to win this game. In the first fragment of the match, the hosts had a couple of good scoring chances including Jevtic’s free-kick which flew just slightly above the crossbar.
15 minutes into the game, Piast could have taken the lead. Muhar’s imprecise passed helped the guests recovered the ball and Parzyszek found himself one-on-one with the keeper. However, it was van der Hart who triumphed in this direct clash. For the next few minutes, the two teams fought for the ball in the midfield, struggling to take control of the game. Finally, when Lech took possession of the ball, Tiba raced into the box where he was fouled and the referee awarded the hosts with a penalty kick which Gytkjaer effortlessly converted into his 50th goal for the team from Poznan.
The opening minutes of the second half were full of struggles to take possession of the ball, but when Lech finally succeeded, they quickly scored the second goal. Kostevych crossed the ball into the box where Gytkjaer was waiting and the Danish striker redirected the pass into the net his head. Just a couple of minutes later, Gytkjaer had a perfect chance to grab a hat-trick, but this time his shot was imprecise. From then onwards, the hosts were in control of the game, occasionally counterattacking which usually ended unsuccessfully. Around the 90th minute, Piast had an opportunity to pull one goal back but Rymaniak’s strong shot from outside the box was off target. A moment later, the team from Poznan noticed that they had enough space to counterattack. Tiba sent a beautiful pass into the box which Amaral converted into the third goal, setting the final score to 3:0.
