For the second time in a row, the stadium at Bułgarska Street filled up to its maximum capacity, but unlike last time, Lech’s players failed to triumph in the league clash. The hosts drew with Legia Warsaw 1:1, but luckily for the team from Poznań, their main opponents also lost points in this round of PKO BP Ekstraklasa; as a result, Lech has regained the position at the top of the league table
There were a lot of unknowns regarding Lech’s line-up for the match against Legia Warsaw. Following the previous game in Wrocław, Skorża’s squad was pretty bruised. At the halftime of the clash with Śląsk, Antonio Milić had to be substituted whereas Joao Amaral played until the final whistle despite an ankle injury that he suffered in the first half. Therefore, their presence in the game with Legia was unsure but ultimately both players recovered in time to be in the starting line-up.
However, it wasn’t Milić nor Amaral who was the hero of the first half, but Lubomir Satka who, 30 minutes into the match, found himself in Legia’s box at the right time and converted a set piece into a goal. Lech’s homegrown player Dawid Kownacki got the assist.
Until that moment, Lech’s domination on the pitch was indisputable whilst Legia played a rather average game with not much to offer in the offense. But whenever the referee announced halftime, the scoreboard was showing a 1:1 draw – 5 minutes before the break, Rafael Lopes converted a cross from a free kick into an equalizer.
The second half looked different as the game became more even-sided. Only in the last phase of the game did Lech start putting real pressure on Legia’s defensive line and came close to winning three points. First, Nika Kvekveskiri hit the woodwork from a free kick, and then the referee made a costly mistake when he – and the VAR – failed to notice a handball in Legia’s penalty area and didn’t award the hosts with a penalty kick. As a result, the two teams were forced to share points.
In that same league round, Pogoń lost to Wisła Płocka and Raków drew with Śląsk Wrocław which enabled Lech to regain the leader’s position in the league table. In the next round of PKO BP Ekstraklasa, Skorża and his players will face Wisła Płock, on April 16th, at 8:00 pm.
