The new temporary coach, Janusz Góra, and his new formation did not help Lech beat Legia Warsaw in the Sunday league clash. However, a goalless draw and not-so-brief moments of good play give fans optimism ahead of the remaining PKO BP Ekstraklasa games.
Following the departure of Dariusz Żuraw, his assistant coach Janusz Góra was tasked with taking over the team ahead of the upcoming Polish ‘El Clasico’. The temporary coach surprised fans and the opponents with an unusual for Lech, 3-5-2 formation.
The new tactics did provide the team from Poznań with new opportunities in the offence, however, they failed to convert the chances into goals. Mikael Ishak had probably the best goal-scoring opportunity of the match when he received a perfect cross from Pedro Tiba, but his shot from a header fell right into the hands of Artur Boruc.
Legia, surprised by Lech’s unusual formation and tactics, was unexpectedly mediocre in the offence – the team from Poznań rarely caused any problems to Lech’s defensive line, but when they did, Mickey van der Hart intervened confidently. The goalless draw meant that the two teams were forced to share points, however, looking at the Saturday match, it was a fair score. In the upcoming league clash with Raków Częstochowa, Lech will be led by their new coach, Maciej Skorża, who signed a two-year contract with the club from Poznań.
Lech: Van der Hart - Satka, Salamon, Milić - Kamiński (61. Skóraś), Karlstrom, Tiba, Kvekveskiri, Puchacz - Ishak, Ramirez (80. Sykora)
Legia: Boruc - Jędrzejczyk, Wieteska, Shabanov (57. Wszołek) - Juranović, Slisz, Martins, Mladenović - Kapustka, Pekhart, Luquinhas
