In the last league match of the season, Lech Poznań beat Jagiellonia Białystok 4:0 at home, and as a result, became the 2019/20 vice-champions. Gytkjaer scored two goals in his final match for Lech Poznań and won the title of league’s best goal scorer. Tiba and Kamiński set the final score to 4:0.
The situation before the match with Jagiellonia was clear – Lech needed one league point to finish the league on the second rank, however, everyone knew that the team from Poznań was aiming for a score that would close off the season in good style. You could see Lech’s determination from the first whistle – the hosts immediately started putting pressure on Jagiellonia’s defensive line and managed to score early on. Puchacz led the offensive attempt, sent a well-timed pass to Ramirez who was positioned just outside the box, and the latter spotted Tiba who managed to dribble past one of the defenders and confidently place the ball in the net. Initially, the linesman signalised offside, however, after watching replays, the referee ruled the goal as correct.
A few minutes later it was already 2:0. Ramirez added another assist to his account but this time he set up Gytkjaer with a perfect pass that the Dane converted into a beautiful goal from outside the box. The team from Białystok had a great chance to score when they intercepted Moder’s pass and led a counterattack, however, Imaz’s goal was disallowed following VAR intervention. Jóźwiak also had an opportunity to add a goal of his own but his attempt stopped on the crossbar.
30 minutes into the match it was 3:0. Tiba’s great pass behind the defensive line reached Kamiński and the youngster’s perfect first touch and calmness helped beat the keeper in a one-on-one situation. Lech didn’t slow down and before the referee announced halftime, the fans gathered at the stadium celebrated the fourth goal. Jagiellonia lost the ball to Ramirez who spotted Kamiński and sent him a perfectly-timed long ball. The goalkeeper stopped the youngster’s attempt but he was helpless when it came to Gytkjaer’s follow-up shot. The Danish striker, for whom it was the last match wearing Lech’s shirt, scored his 24th league goal this season and was awarded the title of the best goal scorer of 2019/20. Jagiellonia woke up in the closing minutes of the first half and got a few good scoring chances but their attempts were ineffective.
Lech continued dominating in the second half and Gytkjaer played a key role in the offensive. The Dane had a few chances to grab a hattrick however, first he failed to intercept Puchacz’s strong cross, and in the following attempt, he made a mistake that cost him a great ball. The second half was undoubtedly less exhilarating than the first 45 minutes. Still, the hosts could have changed the score one again but Ramirez’s shot stopped on the crossbar and Skóraś and Satka missed the target. The game finished with a 4:0 win for Lech which meant the team from Poznań was awarded silver medals for the 2019/20 PKO Ekstraklasa season.
