Lech did not expect the Saturday match – which happened to be on the club’s 99th birthday – to go this way. The team from Poznań was beaten 2:3 by Jagiellonia Białystok at home despite having the advantage of one man for the majority of the second half.
The Saturday game did not begin well for the hosts – in the 2nd minute, the team from Białystok scored for the first time that night. Mickey van der Hart managed to stop Maciej Makuszewski’s attempt but he was helpless when it came to Fedor Cernych’s follow-up shot.
Lech responded well to the conceded goal and in the 12th minute, their offensive attempts bore fruit in the form of Skóraś’ beautiful shot from a volley which gave no chance to Xavier Dziekoński. Before the referee announced halftime, Jagiellonia’s goalkeeper was forced to take the ball out of the net for the second time. This time, Dani Ramirez’s cross reached Mikael Ishak and the latter converted the pass into a goal.
At the beginning of the second half, Lech’s luck has turned around once again when Jagiellonia’s defender Błażej Augustyn left the pitch after seeing a red card. With one man more, it seemed that Lech wouldn’t let the three points slip away. However, the hosts were very imprecise in Jagiellonia’s penalty area and the wasted goal-scoring opportunities took revenge on the team in the last 20 minutes of the game. The squad from Białystok counterattacked twice via the right flank and managed to place the ball in Lech’s net each time thanks to Bojan Nastić and Bartłomiej Wdowik. As a result, the hosts had a bitter pill to swallow.
