In the third friendly match of the pre-season, Lech Poznań drew 1:1 against Dundee United FC. Mikael Ishak scored the only goal for the Polish side. This game marked the end of Lech’s pre-season training camp at the Research & Development Centre in Wronki.
One win and one loss – those were Lech’s statistics following two friendly, pre-season matches. In the last training game in Wronki, the team from Poznań faced Dundee United FC – a Scottish side that finished 6th in their local league last season.
Since the start of the match, Lech spent a lot of time in Dundee’s penalty area, but they struggled to find a way to put the ball in the back of the net. Afonso Sousa came close to scoring in the 20th minute when he fired a shot from outside the box with his weaker foot, but Dundee’s keeper was well-positioned and managed to redirect the ball above the crossbar.
However, Lech’s next offensive attempt resulted in a goal. Mikael Ishak finished an impressive team effort with a successful dribble and a precise shot that left the goalkeeper helpless. Not long later, the team from Poznań was awarded a free kick which Joel Pereira converted into a shot and although the ball went around the wall, it bounced off the post before being booted by one of the Scottish players. Less than a minute later, Ba Loua avoided the offside trap perfectly and came one-on-one with the keeper. However, in this instance, it was Dundee’s goalkeeper who triumphed.
In the end, the first half ended with a one-goal lead for Lech. Niels Frederiksen sent a different line-up for the second part of the match and shortly after the game was resumed, Lech had another good chance to score. Ali Gholizadeh ran into the penalty area and sent a cross to the right flank, where Filip Borowski was positioned. The defender, who has just returned from a loan at Warta Poznań, fired a shot, but it hit the side net.
In the second 45 minutes, Bartosz Mrozek was much busier and had to intervene numerous times. Despite his good performance, in the 60th minute, the Polish keeper was helpless. One of his teammates lost the ball, Dundee took immediate advantage of the error, and Palmer-Houlden’s strong shot from outside the box was impossible to stop. Shortly before the final whistle, Dino Hotić could have turned the tables when he recovered the ball following Dundee’s error, but his shot flew above the crossbar.
The friendly clash with Dundee FC was Lech’s last match played at the Research & Development Centre in Wronki. Now Niels Frederiksen’s squad will continue preparing for the upcoming league season in Poznań, at Bułgarska Street. Next week, the team will play another friendly – this time against FK Terplice (details to be announced).
