Lech Poznań is known for its great Academy which has produced multiple talents in the past years. Below is a summary of Lech’s homegrown players’ performances in international leagues.
For Jakub Kamiński, the 2022/2023 season was a debut on the German stage. The young winger has reasons to be proud – he adapted quickly and managed to win a place in the starting line-up. Lech’s homegrown player has displayed his versatility as he competed in various positions in the past season. Kamiński spent over 2000 minutes on the German pitches, scored 5 goals and got 3 assists. The winger found the back of the net against the likes of Bayern Munich and Hoffenheim. His former colleague, Robert Gumny, spent a similar amount of time on Bundesliga pitches. The youngster played in 29 matches and in 22 of them he was a part of the starting line-up. The 25-year-old also scored one goal against… VfL Wolfsburg. There is another Lech Poznań homegrown player who is competing in the top German division – Marcin Kamiński. The centre-back was injured for most of the season and only returned in the 28th league round. Schalke had a great end of the 2022/2023 campaign and fought until the very end to avoid relegation. Unfortunately, a 2:4 loss against RB Leipzig means that next season, Schalke will play in the 2nd division. Despite making just 9 appearances, Kamiński scored 3 goals.
Dawid Kownacki, who represented Fortuna Dusseldorf – a German team competing in the 2. Bundesliga – played a spectacular season. He was the best player in the team and helped his squad finish fourth – just one spot short of promotion play-offs. Lech’s homegrown striker scored 14 goals and got 9 assists in the league. His form was acknowledged by top-division teams; as a result, Kownacki will compete for Werder Bremen next season.
Karol Linetty played another season on the Serie A pitches. In the previous campaign, the midfielder struggled to win a permanent spot in Ivan Juric’s starting line-up, but the situation seems to have improved this season. The 28-year-old missed only 6 league games this season, one of which was a result of accumulated yellow cards. The Polish midfielder spent nearly 1900 minutes on the Italian pitches. Meanwhile, Tomasz Kędziora spent the last year competing in two different leagues. In the autumn round, the defender represented Dynamo Kyiv, whereas, in the spring round, he joined PAOK Saloniki on loan. The 29-year-old made an appearance in Champions League qualifiers and Europa League group stage. Despite a rocky start, towards the end of the season, Kędziora made his way into the starting line-up of the Greek side. Tymoteusz Puchacz also spent the last few months in Greece. The defender didn’t appear on the pitch regularly back at Union Berlin, hence he decided to join Panathinaikos. The 24-year-old made 16 appearances for the Greek club. Meanwhile, Kamil Jóźwiak has reasons to be happy about the past months. In the last 11 games (MLS and the Cup matches), the winger scored 4 times and assisted his teammates 4 times. However, unfortunately, due to a thigh injury, Jóźwiak has been unable to play since mid-May.
The last season hasn’t been a very successful one for Jan Bednarek. The defender was sent to Aston Villa on loan. Unfortunately, he played only 98 minutes on the pitch for the Villains and returned to Southampton in the spring. Since rejoining the Saints, the defender appeared in every match. Unfortunately, Southampton won just 10 league points this year which resulted in a relegation from Premier League. Bednarek’s former teammate, Mateusz Lis, suffered a similar fate. The defender spent the past season at Troyes and failed to help his squad avoid relegation to Ligue 2. Meanwhile, Jakub Moder hasn’t made any appearances on the pitch in the last campaign – he is still recovering from torn ligaments.
