Lech’s homegrown players Eryk Kryg and Jakub Niewiadomski have officially become members of the senior squad. Both youngsters have been training with the first team since December 2019 and the coaching staff decided that they want the two players to be permanent members of the A squad.
Kryg is a 2000-born midfielder who has already gathered plenty of experience in senior football. He’s played a key role in the reserves in the previous campaign and helped Lech’s B team advance to the II league. The youngster from Poznan is usually positioned as a central midfielder, however, he is equally valuable in the defence. He already has 40 appearances on professional football pitches on his account, during which he managed to score 9 goals. Kryg is still awaiting his debut in the first team.
And so is Niewiadomski, his teammate who is 2 years younger. Jakub joined Lech in summer 2015 from Górnik Konin and he has been competing for the team from Poznan as a centre-back or on the left flank of the defence. Occasionally, he also takes over the role of a winger. In the most recent campaign in the Central Junior League, Niewiadomski has attracted attention with his talent for scoring – he managed to find the back of the net 5 times despite playing in the defence.
The two Academy products are now going to face the challenge of adapting to the first team and preparing for their official debut. “We have been watching Eryk’s progress very closely. He’s been an important asset to the reserves team. Meanwhile, Jakub was out for a while due to injuries, however, in Turkey, he impressed us so much that the coaching staff also decided to make him a permanent part of the senior squad. We will continue to monitor the remaining Academy talents who have been training with the first team recently, that is Smajdor, Karbownik, and Bartkowiak. We are hoping that one day they will also reinforce the senior squad,” explained Tomasz Rząsa, Lech’s Sporting Director.
