Lech Poznań quickly bounced back from the surprising loss to Resovia Rzeszów (0:1) and extended their streak of league wins in the clash with Korona Kielce. Patrik Wålemark scored a hattrick and helped his squad triumph 3:2.
Niels Frederiksen’s team shocked everyone when they failed to beat Resovia Rzeszów in the Polish Cup and ended up being eliminated by the third-division club. However, just three days later the team from Poznań had to face Korona Kielce in a league clash. Therefore, they needed to bounce back quickly to extend their winning streak to 6 matches and maintain a safe advantage over other PKO BO Ekstraklasa teams. The task wasn't going to be easy as their opponent has started performing better since coach Jacek Zieliński’s arrival.
For the first 20 minutes of the game, Lech was in control of the play. They stayed in possession of the ball for the majority of the time and quickly recovered it whenever Korona managed to touch the ball. Niels Frederiksen’s team emphasized their advantage with Patrik Wålemark’s goal – the Swede took advantage of a good pass from one of his teammates and sent the ball between the goalkeeper’s legs and into the back of Korona’s net. The hosts bounced back very quickly and gradually started taking control of the match, pushing Lech deep into the defence. Before the referee announced halftime, Korona equalised thanks to Pedro Nuno.
The hosts continued dominating on the pitch in the second half and kept on creating goal-scoring opportunities. One of their corner kicks nearly ended up in a goal; Mariusz Fornalczyk was also close to adding his name to the goal scorers’ sheet. In the 57th minute, the score changed in favour of the hosts. Dino Hotić fouled Yoav Hofmaister inside Lech’s box and Pedro Nuno confidently converted the penalty kick into a goal. The second conceded goal had a positive effect on Frederiksen’s squad – the players from Poznań turned the tables within minutes thanks to Wålemark. The Swede scored his second goal with a header and then set the final score to 3:2 with a flat, strong shot from an acute angle. Lech successfully held onto the score and won three league points.
