Korona Kielce - Lech Poznań 1:0

The unfortunate series of away matches without a win continues. In the 24th league game of the season, Bjelica’s team lost to Korona Kielce. Despite dropping points, Lech remains 3rd in the league.

The weather conditions and a -10-degree cold had an indisputable influence on the game. However, Korona’s players ensured that the fans were kept awake since the first whistle. In the 2nd minute, Kaczarawa dribbled past two defenders and sent a heel pass to Kielb. The latter was one-on-one with the keeper, but Buric’s amazing save stopped the player from scoring.

Mainly due to the winter conditions, the teams played chaotic football and most of the play took place in the midfield. Korona dominated most of the match and, therefore, created scoring chances. In the 20th minute, Korona was awarded a free kick and Kaczarawa’s clash with Janicki could have ended in a goal for the hosts, but Lech’s defender and the keeper stopped him in time. Lech responded with Gajos’s attempt from outside the box, but it caused no problems to Korona’s goalkeeper.

In the 36th minute, Kielb spotted Petrak who was left unmarked on Lech’s half of the pitch. The Croatian was positioned behind the line of defenders, but in the crucial moment, he mishit the ball. Shortly afterward, Buric was forced to intervene once more. Kaczarawa sent a pass to Kossakiewicz who wasn’t being marked and Korona’s midfielder fired a shot at the goal which was successfully stopped by Buric.

After halftime, Lech was determined to dominate the game and Radut, who replaced Jozwiak, was meant to bring fresh energy to the team. In addition, Bjelica made a couple more changes in the formation, moving Dilaver to the right-back position and Gumny further up the flank. The changes resulted in intensified offensive attacks of the guests. However, the domination did not bring about clear scoring chances.

Lech struggled to great good goal-scoring opportunities even from set pieces. No matter who approached the ball, whether it was Kostevych, Majewski, or Radut, the attempts were failures. Meanwhile, in the 69th minute, Korona who was relatively inactive in the second half. Cvijanovic’s attempt from outside the box was unintentionally redirected by one of the defenders and left Buric helpless at is rolled into the back of the net.

Lech was determined to equalize as quickly as possible and, therefore, Bjelica brought on an additional striker. Koljic and Gytkjaer played alongside each other, but because Korona defended relentlessly and with a lot of players, the two forwards struggled. In the injury time, Lech had the perfect chance to equalize after Gytkjaer was fouled in the box and referee awarded the guests with a penalty kick. However, the Danish striker failed to convert the chance into a goal and it was Korona that collected all 3 points on Sunday evening.
