Lech kicked off the playoffs with a draw against Jagiellonia Bialystok. Despite the team from Poznan scoring two goals early on, the match ended with a 3:3 draw. Vujadinovic, Amaral, and Zhamaletdinov scored for Lech.
The game began perfectly for the team from Poznan. A couple of minutes into the match, Jevtic’s cross into the box reached Vujadinovic who placed the ball in the back of the net with a header. Jagiellonia tried equalizing a few minutes later when Imaz received a great long ball and came one-on-one with Buric, but the keeper successfully stopped the forward. Lech seemed to have increased the pace following Jagiellonia’s offensive attempt and quickly changed the score to 2:0. This time Makuszewski built the attack from the right flank and sent a pass into the box where Amaral was waiting. The Portuguese player beat the goalkeeper with a strong shot. It was Amaral’s 8th league goal this season.
Since then onwards, it was Jagiellonia that dominated the match, however, Lech’s confidence in the defence and occasional counterattacks caused problems to the hosts. One of Lech’s rapid offensive attempts could have ended with a goal, however, Runje turned out to be quicker than Jozwiak who was about to finish off the counterattack.
In the 41st minute, Imaz got another goal-scoring opportunity when he came one-on-one with Buric. The forward fell to the ground following the clash with the keeper, and he was initially shown a yellow card. However, the referee used VAR and not only decided to cancel the booking, but also awarded Jagiellonia with a penalty kick which Imaz converted into a goal. Lech had one more chance to change the score before the referee announced halftime. Successful high pressing resulted in an interception of one of the passes near Jagiellonia’s box. However, Makuszewski’s shot was too weak to hit the back of the net.
The second half of the match could have begun as well for Lech as the first part. In the 49th minute, Gumny sent a strong and precise cross into the box, but Zhamaletdinov failed to intercept the pass. Gradually, Jagiellonia started attacking more intensely. In the 53rd minute, Kadlec fired an impressive, precise shot at Lech’s goal which left Buric helpless as the ball fell into the net. The equalizer seemed to have motivated Jagiellonia even further and it took the hosts another 5 minutes to change the score to 3:2. Runje was the once to place the ball in the net with a great lob. However, the referee disallowed the goal having spotted a handball that preceeded the shot. He gave a yellow card to Zhamaletdinov and gave Jagiellonia a penalty kick which Imaz once again successfully converted into a goal.
A couple of minutes later, the Russian forward made up for his mistake. He received a good pass from Marchwinski on the corner of the penalty area and without hesitation fired a shot at Jagiellonia’s goal. The equalizer helped Lech regain control of the game, however, they failed to score again, hence the two teams had to share points.
