Lech Poznan is currently placed last in Ekstraklasa. After the loss against Jagiellonia (0:1), Polish Champions occupy the lowest league rank. In a week's time Lech will have an opportunity to move up the table when they will face pre-last Gornik Zabrze.
Since the very first whistle the hosts showed to their opponent from Greater Poland that this match won't be easy and that Lech will have to play at a very high level to end the unfortunate series of poor games. Jagiellonia attacked its rival high up the pitch and they attempted to exploit every single small mistake that the defense line from Poznan made. However, the blue-and-white defenders were doing a fine job that night and finally Skorza's team managed to avoid losing a goal in the opening 15 minutes. Nonetheless, Jagiellonia had its goal-scoring opportunities, but Vassiljev's massive shot under the crossbar was successfully saved by Buric, while Goralski header was inaccurate.
Jagiellonia pressed very intensively and within a minute the hosts had four chances to score a goal. Lech seemed unable to leave its penalty area, but in the 25th minute the team from Poznan finally attacked its rival when Kownacki finished Pawlowski's individual run with a shot that was eventually blocked by the defending players.
Lech's moment of enlightenment faded very quickly and 30 minutes into the game the team from Poznan was already losing 0:1. Straus sent a cross into the penalty area and although Goralski missed the ball, Frankowski had no trouble redirecting it into the net.
Lech came back for the second half with a clear aim to catch up, but it was Jagiellonia that dominated the match and had multiple goal-scoring opportunities. The hosts caused most problems to Lech after corner kicks, but all the shot were too weak for Buric to let the ball fall into the back of the net.
Nonetheless, there were moments when Lech could have equalized. In the 59th minute Arajuuri's header stopped the heartbeats of the fans from Poznan, but the ball eventually flew next to the post. In the 68th minute Pawlowski sent an accurate shot in the direction of the goal, but all the goalkeeper had to do was to wait for the ball to roll into his hands.
Lech was trying and Jagiellonia was effectively stopping them. If it wasn't for Buric the goal difference might have been higher, but nonetheless when the referee whistled for the last time that night, the Polish Champion was left without points yet again. Now not only is Lech in the relegation zone, but the players from Poznan close the league table. The fans awaiting the enlightenment of their team have to be patient. However, it can no longer be any worse - only better.
